Cab Calloway School of the Arts Welcomes New Dean
Dean Anthony Bolden is starting his first year at Cab Calloway School of the Arts. He previously served as the Principal of Anna P. Mote Elementary School. He is from Philadelphia, PA where he attended the Girard Academic Music Program from 7th-12th grade. In a harmonious learning fellowship, Mr. Bolden had an amazing magnet public school experience where academic and musical excellence were joined. He furthered his education at West Chester University on an academic basketball scholarship, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and had a successful college basketball career.
Upon graduating from college, Mr. Bolden played semi-professional basketball in the Eastern Basketball Association (EBA) for the Delaware Blue Bombers and Lehigh Valley Colonials from 1997-1999. He was inducted into the WCU Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. After a brief semi-professional basketball career, he began working with adjudicated youth and children with severe mental health disabilities at Devereux Foundation, Chester County Intermediate Unit, and many other alternative settings. He has served in leadership positions at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels. His passion for counseling and educating children inspired him to earn a K-12 Special Education Certificate from Immaculata College, a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum Instruction at Penn State University, and an Educational Leadership Certification. Mr. Bolden is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Community Care and Counseling – Traumatology.
He is extremely motivated to empower students to persevere through challenges and is driven by the adversity he overcame while living in foster care. He is invested in trauma-informed practices and believes that an art-infused education can offer children a therapeutic learning environment conducive to their well-being. He is excited to bring his 24 years of youth development and educational experiences to Cab Calloway to foster a family-oriented community of innovators committed to our school vision where the “energy of the arts and academic unite.”
Mr. Bolden loves spending time with his wife and two sons. He enjoys outdoor activities, deep-sea fishing, playing the piano, singing, community service, and puzzles.
