Thomas McKean High School's guidance counselors have spent the last several weeks meeting with rising sophomores, juniors and seniors to help them select their courses for the 2018-2019 school year. Students are able to choose levels of courses, from College Prep to Honors to Advanced Placement. We also offer several courses with DelTec where students can earn both high school and college credit for their work! Our schedule runs on an A day and a B day, with students taking four classes each day, for a total of eight different courses. This allows McKean students to take a full complement of academic classes - Math, English, Science, Social Studies and Foreign Language – and have the opportunity to also experience our Pathways courses like Culinary Arts, Automotive, Animal Science, Marketing, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Child Development, Teacher Academy, Technology, and Audio, Radio, Video Engineering,. The arts are also included in our Pathways, so students may choose music and art too. Other Pathways like JDG and AVID help prepare our students for success after their time at McKean. Our students take at least three years in one pathway to have the opportunity to become proficient in that area, but also have time in their schedules to try other pathways and to take additional academic elective classes as well. Students round out their program at McKean with a Physical Education and Health program, and the opportunity to take Drivers Ed and a course in preparation for the SAT.
