We A.R.E. McKean
The McKean Highlanders have kicked off our second year of We A.R.E. McKean! We A.R.E. McKean is an initiative which focuses on teaching Highlanders how to demonstrate more positive behaviors in school and in the community and to prepare them to show achievement, responsibility, and empathy once they leave us as adults. Throughout the year, students are taught how to show Achievement, Responsibility, and Empathy in all areas of the school from the classroom to the cafeteria to the busses. Sometimes this looks like a guided lesson and a discussion between students and teachers during class. Other times, it’s calling attention to the expectations posted throughout the school as reminders. Students who demonstrate these expectations at school have the opportunity to earn rewards and access to school-wide events such as the homecoming dance. We are continuing to build opportunities for students to earn rewards for positive behavior into our school culture.

One of the most exciting parts about this year is the special Student Voices Advisory! All Highlanders were asked to complete a survey which asked for their perspective on the role their voice plays at McKean High School as well as what issues they see popping up around the school. From this, every month a new group of students will meet with Ms. Kim Stock to discuss the culture of McKean and how teachers, students, and community members can work together to promote a positive culture and proudly state We A.R.E. McKean.
