Principal NeCastro's Message for Families (updated October 19th)

Hi Forest Oak Families,

As we approach our Phase 2 reopening in a few weeks, we have almost all responses from families about their choice to either return to on campus learning or online learning. Currently, we are expecting about 275 students to return to on campus learning with about 170 remaining to learn online at home.

In the weeks to come I will be providing more updated information as we approach returning to on campus learning during the week of November 2.  Our goal is to try to execute the return plan in a way where staff and student's health is the priority. Students will come to school one day the week of November 2. You will hear from your child’s teacher or their newly assigned teacher prior to November 2nd. Students who chose online learning will hear from your child’s remote teacher about the online schedule for the week of November 2.

Monday, November 2: Students with last names A-G will attend school

Wednesday, November 4: Students with last names H-O will attend school

Thursday, November 5: Students with the last names P-Z will attend school

All students who chose to return in-person will begin the 4-day week on November 9. Students will attend Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning November 9. There will be no students in school on Wednesdays. Your child may have online (Zoom) supports/groups scheduled for Wednesdays and more information will be provided if this is the case.

If your family has any questions, please reach out to our admin team.

In-Person Learning Safety Precautions

All students will be required to wear a mask during the entire school day and at recess. Masks will only come off when students are eating and/or when students can safely maintain 6 ft or more of social distancing. As a parent/guardian, your support with mask wearing is going to be very crucial. Please send your child wearing a mask to school each day. Students will practice social distancing and will remain at least 3 feet away from others while wearing masks all throughout the school day.

Good hand hygiene will be encouraged and used throughout the school day. Each classroom/bathroom with sinks has a foam antibacterial soap dispenser and each room has a hand sanitizer dispenser.

Breakfast/ Lunch

Breakfast will be delivered to your child’s classroom and they will eat breakfast in their classroom. Your child will most likely have lunch in their classroom and the cafeteria on a rotating schedule. All students will sit at least 6 feet apart during all eating times.

Unified Arts

Your child will attend the same Unified Arts class for several weeks. For example, you child will have music every M, T, Th, F for about four weeks. P.E. and Music are going to try their best to conduct classes outside, weather permitting. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Library classes will most likely take place over Zoom within your child’s classroom. The Art Teacher will travel to classrooms and will conduct art class in your child’s classroom. Your child’s teacher will communicate which Unified Arts your child will have for the first several weeks.

For students who are enrolled in online learning, more information will be provided about asynchronous unified arts activities.

Students will wear masks during recess. Recess will take place outdoors every day, weather permitting. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Students will go to recess as a grade level, but will have certain days to play on the playground and certain days to play on the blacktop area. Students will be reminded of social distancing and wearing masks throughout recess.

Student Schedule

Friday, October 30- asynchronous learning (staff in-service day)

Week of November- Students choosing in-person learning will attend school one day this week. See above for your child’s scheduled day.
