MYP mathematics teacher Annette DeBastiani was recognized at a ceremony in Dover as one of five national finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) on Thursday, November 15. DeBastiani, who is one of three math teachers along with two science teachers chosen for this prestigious award, was nominated by district math specialist Michelle Northshield. She will now compete against the best math and science teachers in the nation, through a laborious process that can take up to two years to determine the winners.
This is DeBastiani's first year at Dickinson. She has previously taught 12 years at Stanton Middle School and six years in the state of Maryland. She attained her undergraduate degree at the University of Delaware and her Masters in Special Education from Wilmington University.
