In early April, the Delaware Press Association announced that senior Sofia Rose’s entries into the High School Communications Contest editorial category had earned her the top two places in the statewide competition. Her editorial “We stand with immigrants” placed first and “Banned books lead to closed minds” finished second. Her winning editorial was entered into a nationwide contest sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women.
In early May, Rose found out that her piece on immigrants received top marks and earned her first place in this prestigious competition. One judge commented that Rose’s editorial was “the best of the best” and praised her for “tackling this tough topic with a teenager’s voice.” She will be recognized by the NFPW in a September banquet in Bethlehem, PA.
Rose, who came to Dickinson during her sophomore year, has received numerous accolades during her three years including earning the distinction of valedictorian. She has been an active member of numerous organizations including journalism, National Honor Society, and Rho Kappa. She will be graduating with an International Baccalaureate diploma and attending Wellesley College, one of the preeminent all-women’s colleges in the nation, this coming fall.
