•      A Message from the Principal

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. Level Up is our school theme for this year. Parents, teachers and students, it is time for our school community to Level Up! Leveling p means, " to move oneself up, advance or improve in order to get to another location."  We absolutely take school very seriously and we know that each scholar embodies a seed of greatness.  Here at the Joseph Johnson Elementary School, our job is to water the seed so that each scholar demonstrates our Joseph Johnson Elementary School motto: EXCELLENCE FOR EVERY CHILD, EVERY MINUTE, EVERY DAY!

This year our Joseph Johnson Elementary School will focus on growing our school's, staff and our school community.  Our school community will connect students and provide experiences that will challenge our growth as students as well as individuals.

As we embark on our school year, know that there are a number of experiences and opportunities for our scholars to learn and grow.  Our Unified Arts Curriculum is enhanced with wonderful opportunities in the school library.  Students read and learn research skills on a daily basis.  Our music teacher organized a bucket club and school chorus.  Our school is proud of our school band and strings department.  All students are screened for Talented and Gifted services and students who are limited in English are afforded the opportunity to work with our Multilingual Language teacher.

In addition to the regularly scheduled instructional day and Unified Arts offerings, our school also provides the students with an opportunity to participate in the after-school program entitled, Wildcat Den.  The Wildcat Den offers students Math tutoring. In addition, the afterschool program provides Girls on the Run Club, Girls Inc., Tennis in the Streets, FAME (Formum for Advancing Minorities in Engineering); Born for Brothers and a host of other opportunities.

Did you know that strong parental involvement is one of the strongest predictors of student academic success?  Yes!  Parent and teacher relationships must remain strong.  WE NEED OUR PARENTS.  Children need parents to make certain that they are reaching their grade level targets, attending to teacher expectations and mastering anchor standards so that they can excel academically.  Please consider joining our PTA as we work with the staff and school's administration to continue to move the school forward.

As we open this school year, please know that our Johnson staff is here for each and every Wildcat.  With the encouragement of our school community partners, mentors, teachers and friends, Joseph E. Johnson will shine as we provide EXCELLENCE FOR EVERY CHILD; EVERY MINUTE; EVERY DAY!!!
