• Lego League Information and Registration Link



    North Star Families,

     

    Welcome to a new school year! This letter contains information regarding the First Lego League program.

     

    If you are interested in Lego League, please visit www.firstlegoleague.org for information. North Star Elementary participates in the EXPLORE age group. My task is to coordinate teams for you, basically matching coaches with team members. There is no initial fee to join, however, teams will require the appropriate LEGO kit and will need to share the cost. Depending on team size, it should not be more than $40 per student.

     

    Your team will practice once or twice a week to prepare for competitions of your choice in late winter/early spring. In the past, there have been a number of Lego League EXPOs in our area, but none in the last few years (since Covid). A colleague recently told me they may have one back in the area. I will get the details. If it’s not happening or not feasible, I will host an EXPO at North Star as in past years.

     

    The Lego League season is completely parent-run. All students on the team do not have to attend North Star. There is no limit to the number of teams in this program, so as long as I have volunteer coaches, I will continue to form teams. I often have to form a waiting list of students interested in Lego League due to lack of parent coaches, so please seriously consider coaching or co-coaching a team.

     

    After perusing the site myself, I have discovered that LL has started a new program this year (in addition to the norm) called First Dive. It looks really interesting!

    If coaches/teams choose this option, you would compete in the SUBMERGED group.

     

    Coaches are required to complete background checks before beginning practices. If you are interested in coaching, I assure you, we will have a team for you! Please go ahead and start the background check process with LL. They require that you go through their system and will not accept other background checks.
