What is a Community School?
A community school is a special place where schools team up with local groups to help kids and their families. These schools are open to everyone, not just during class time, and work together to make learning better and support the whole community.
Why choose a Community School?
Students are not immune to stress. Every day, Delaware children arrive at school carrying with them experiences from our community, ranging from witnessing community violence to food insecurity. Community Schools partner with community-based organizations and draw from other resources to provide an environment where students are able to feel safe in talking about and tackling the issues of our community, creating a safe and effective learning environment for all students.
What is the work of a Community School?
The community schools program works with schools, families, and local groups to help kids in Delaware come to school healthy and ready to learn. By teaming up, we make sure kids get what they need to be healthy and have fun and meaningful learning opportunities.
